{"id":2008,"date":"2014-05-23T15:56:38","date_gmt":"2014-05-23T21:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.truk.com\/ramble\/?p=2008"},"modified":"2014-05-23T16:05:09","modified_gmt":"2014-05-23T22:05:09","slug":"the-castles-of-southwestern-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.truk.com\/ramble\/2014\/05\/23\/the-castles-of-southwestern-france\/","title":{"rendered":"The Castles of Southwestern France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.truk.com\/ramble\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/wpid-img_20140523_170449.jpg\"><img title=\"IMG_20140523_170449.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.truk.com\/ramble\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/wpid-img_20140523_170449.jpg\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Katherine and I took the good advice from a friend and spent the day exploring various ch\u00e2teaus in the Hautes-Corbieres region of southwestern France.<\/p>\n<p>There are ch\u00e2teaus spread throughout the mountainous area south of Carcassonne, which gained fame in the time of the Cathar religious sect of the 13th century and were fortified by French kings, when this area was part of the border with Spain.<\/p>\n<p>We particularly enjoyed climbing to the top of the Ch\u00e2teau de Peyrepertuse, near the village of Duilhac. The wind blew fierce and cold, but we braved the elements to take in the unparalleled views that stretched nearly to Spain.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, we are staying in Aix-en-Provence, preparing to take possession of a small farmhouse on the outskirts of a Provence village.
